About

Dear Friends, I'm writing this on September 19th 2016. Currently Jukebox Kino is mothballed, as we rethink the best way to make the idea work. Physically mailing out and manufacturing DVD's has not been cost effective or what people are looking for in these modern times. I'm researching whether we become a curated portal to interesting and eclectic world cinema sometime in the near future. We will keep all current subscribers on record and you'll hear from us as soon as we have a fresh plan. Please email us with any queries or requests. Best, Ashley H

In simple terms we're like a yearly magazine subscription, but you get four free films instead of a magazine. It's like the old school Singles Only clubs of the 70's/80’s/90s’ which for a tenner sent you six unique 45 rpm records over a year without you knowing what you were gonna get. Back when independent record labels existed they had strong brand awareness. You knew as a fan that buying an LP from a band on 4AD or FACTORY records meant that you knew were going to get that something that had been through the filter of Ivo Watts Russell or Tony Wilson and the cool people they worked with. It was a badge of quality and a certain style. JUKEBOX KINO film club will offer you that same seal of cinematic quality!

AND CINEPHILES ARE COLLECTORS!

Yep, we’re fanboys and fangirls! We watch films more than once. We want to see the accompanying artwork, listen to the unique directors commentary, see storyboards, really consume a film. ON A DECENT SIZED SCREEN! IN A DARKENED ROOM!!!

Certain films from JUKEBOX KINO will have a limited theatrical release upon the Cinema Arts Network, but others will be strictly limited to the DVD and VOD release. These will be accompanied by Director Q and A’s and hopefully unique one-off events that incorporate parties/events/concerts/exhibitions themed around the ethos, subject or vibe of the films.

My tastes are eclectic, but I am a fan of well-made, brave narrative cinema and experimental film.  JUKEBOX KINO will have an advisory board of film scouts/curators, sourcing the best of international outsider cinema and weird film.  These will range from journalists & programmers to producers & directors who are active on the international festival circuit. Hoped for co-combatants include…

Why can’t I just watch it on NETFLIX/LOVEFILM/AMAZON?

Simple Answer – Because it’s not on NETFLIX/LOVEFILM/AMAZON?
